One of the leading Android blogs, Android Police, has done a thorough research of the latest Google Play APK, and in there they’ve found references to gift cards and a few other new features.

The iTunes Appstore has had gift cards for a long time now. Gift cards is essential as there are many people who would like to purchase paid apps and games but either don’t want to put their credit card at risk by linking it to their account or they simply don’t have a credit card (like kids).

As such, things like piracy will surely take a hit as paid apps and games will become more accessible to people. Google Play (previously known as Android Market) has a 10 time lower revenue from apps compared to the iTunes Appstore despite there being more Android devices in the market.

Another feature that the folks at Android Police have found is the ability to add apps to a wishlist. This probably means that you can keep an expensive app on your radar and snap it once it goes on sale.

All in all, I’m actually pretty excited with the prospect of using Google Play gift cards. It’s definitely a step in the right direction for Android on the whole.

We can’t tell when it will come, but it should be pretty soon. Then there’s the possibility that these gift cards will only be sold in the US, but we hope that they’d make their way to Malaysia soon enough as well.
